I am going to try to spend a week doing all the things I should be doing consistently. I've realized it's not realistic to live like this 100% of the time, but I have backslid and so doing it 100% for a short period of time may be enough to bring it back up in proportion to the lousy stuff I do.
Here are the rules:
1. No processed foods. Processed foods in the Michael Pollan sense because obviously I know that cooking, chopping, and even washing are processing food. So no unpronounceable ingredients, and anything that is pre-made should have 5 or fewer ingredients. I anticipate this may be the biggest challenge of the week as I am a total sucker for convenience foods.
2. Drink only water, tea, coffee. OK, maybe this one will be hardest. I do like a diet soda in the afternoons. Also, I mean black coffee. No fancy Starbucks drinks for me. I will also add that I want to start the day with a glass of water first thing after I wake up with 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar and 1 Tbsp lemon juice. I've read that it's good for digestion.
3. Bed time is 10, wake time is 6. EVERY NIGHT. OK, well, actually maybe this one will be the hardest for me. I've been going to bed all kinds of different hours of lateness and I've been liberally fudging my alarm most mornings ("I can get ready for work in 10 mins, right? Yeah, sure!")
4. No impulse purchases. This plays to financial wellness. I've been spending a lot of money in tiny amounts. That has to stop.
5. Exercise every day. If all the exercise I get in a day is walking to the bus stop, then I must do yoga or crossfit-stuff or plyo at home. Go to the gym on all gym days.
6. Limit technology. I have been feeling overwhelmed by the presence of technology in my life. For a week I will minimize its use. I will put my phone in airplane mode for most of the day- any time I'm driving, during meals, and when I am at work (except breaks). I will limit my computing to blogging or health-related reading. I will limit my Facebooking to 1x a day.
7. Record the experience. I will blog and journal about how it goes. The only way I can make this a lesson is if I can reflect on it later.
8. Meditation or at least do-nothing-time each day. I will meditate or do absolutely nothing for at least 10 minutes a day. Meditation has been a pickle for me in the past because I am not able to forgive myself for all the brain wanderings so I end up feeling frustrated.
9. Record all food and drink. Food journal has been the single biggest help for me getting my eating under control and I've been lax in using it. This week I will use it religiously.
So far today I've had my lemon/acv water and meditated. I didn't get up at 6:30 because pre-planning is apparently not my gift. ;)
Hopefully I'll be back and not forget about this in 15 seconds like I usually do.
